George Faber

George Faber's career as a British TV producer has seen him work on several of the BBC's greatest achievements of the 1990s and 2000s, while his Company Pictures production company led him into a career as an international film and television producer, notably on the 2008 Iraq war miniseries "Generation Kill." Joining the BBC in 1984 as a trainee, Faber worked as a script editor, producer, and executive producer, and eventually became the Head of Single Drama in '93 for the U.K. production behemoth. Here he oversaw 30 productions per year, including the quintessential filmed version of Jane Austen's "Persuasion" in 1995. In the early '90s he was also executive producer of Screenplay, the BBC production project that introduced new filmmakers, including future favorites Danny Boyle and Michael Winterbottom. Faber headed out on his own in '98, launching Company Pictures with production partner Charles Pattinson. Through the turn of the century and the early 2000s, they released several memorable films and television series, including "Morvern Callar," featuring Samantha Morton as a morally detached young Scot, and the award-winning "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers," which saw Geoffrey Rush portray the enigmatic actor. By 2004 Faber had produced several series for British television, but he hit his stride starting in 2004 with "Shameless"--which follows the exploits of a household of abandoned kids living on a Manchester council block--and the racy, youth-oriented "Skins" in 2007.
