Writer Ellen Gulden is the daughter of George Gulden, one of America's finest journalists, who finds it hard to show his love, and Kate Gulden, who is totally open. When her mother is diagnosed with cancer, it is Ellen who must step into the emotional breach. As she tries to cope with her mother's illness and idiosyncratic lifestyle, she learns more about herself and her family.
