New York editor Warren Haggerty (Tracy) hires his out-of-work former employer Bill Chandler (Powell) to marry Haggerty's fiancée, Gladys Benton (Harlow)--then court libeled heiress Connie Allenbury (Loy). The plan is for Gladys to sue Connie for alienation of affection and force her to drop the suit against the newspaper.
