Dr. Ross and Dr. Greene treat a 5-year-old girl who accidentally swallowed cocaine. Closed ERs at two other hospitals make the ER very busy. Susan's sister, Chloe, is becoming mentally unstable.

The team travels to Santa Monica when burned bodies start showing up on a pier; Rossi gets together with his former Marine sergeant from Vietnam.

Benton asks Jeanie to inform her husband about their love affair. Carter is attracted to a new med student, Harper. Carol rides with paramedics for the day. Weaver antagonizes Lewis and Ross.

Dr. Lewis' mother (Valerie Perrine) drops by the hospital to see her and Chloe (Kathleen Wilhoite); Ross treats eight children with digestive trouble.

Randall adjusts to the foster system. Kate and Toby take the next step in their relationship. Kevin visits Sophie in New York. Jack and Rebecca finalize Randall's adoption.
