Jack Nation

One of the many highlights of the lauded drama "Crazy Heart" is the performance of child actor Jack Nation as Buddy Craddock, the son of divorced journalist Jean Craddock (Maggie Gyllenhaal). Nation, who was four when the movie was filmed in 2009, was not an actor; in fact, while on location for the movie in Santa Fe, producer Judy Cairo spotted the boy while she was waiting for a table at a local restaurant. Charmed by the way he was entertaining everyone else in line, Cairo offered him an audition, and, after spending time with stars Jeff Bridges and Gyllenhaal, he got the role. "Crazy Heart," the story of a run-down, hard-drinking country songwriter (Bridges) who attempts to turn his life around after entering into a relationship with Gyllenhaal's single mother, won Bridges an Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Actor, as well as scoring Gyllenhaal an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
