Dewey Cox is a Johnny Cash-alike singer who makes it to the big time in spite of his poor, troubled background. Traumatised by the death of his angelic brother during a childhood frolic with machetes, Cox is at first driven by his desire to make it big before hitting the skids when success leads to drugs and women.
