Maura embraces her new journey, but nothing about life as a woman is easy; Sarah introduces her husband to her ex-girlfriend Tammy; Josh pays a visit to his ex-babysitter, Rita; Ali gets closer to her trainer.

Maura moves out of the family house and into a lively new apartment complex, just as Sarah needs a new home after dismantling her perfect life; Josh has to reconsider his sudden vision of starting a family; Ali finds some new boundaries to cross.

As members of the Pfefferman family gather for Maura's birthday, relationships are tested. Sarah decides to confront Buzzy and Maura makes an announcement.

Maura feels the impact of her health scare, Sarah wants to be on the MidCity Temple board, and Shelly and Buzzy plan a one-woman show.

Dre and Bow are worried about Junior's future working odd jobs, especially after he tells them he wants to produce comedy shows for unknown comics; Rainbow encourages Diane to have a slumber party at their house.
