Desmond wakes up and finds to his horror that Charles Widmore has taken him back to the island. He attacks Widmore, who tells him the island is not finished with him yet, and that if Desmond does not help him, all the people he cares about will die.

Locke escapes the Island and finds himself on the path laid out by Richard Alpert, with the help of an unlikely benefactor; Locke finds himself hopelessly facing the reality of what he must do to save his friends on the Island.

Feeling that their rescue is close at hand, the survivors don't know whether to believe Charlie's final message that the people claiming to liberate them are not who they seem to be.

Libby lends a helping hand to Hurley when he begins to see his friend Dave, who was in the mental institution with Hurley before the crash.
