An old army buddy and fellow surgeon visits Conrad at the hospital. Meanwhile, the team is put to the test when they have to save the life of an uninsured and undocumented patient.

Nic and Conrad diagnose a happy husband and wife who are both admitted to the hospital with mysterious symptoms. Bell and Marshall butt heads on a work trip. A J turns down a request from Bell despite Mina's forewarning.

A blackout requires staff to treat patients without technology, so Bell orders the staff to stop accepting new patients. Conrad and Devon go against the mandate to help a child, and Mina and Austin must perform heart surgery.

After a mix-up in the Emergency Room causes Conrad to deliver a death notification to the wrong family, he sets out to fix it. Nic struggles to find the records of a patient under Lane's care.

Three concurrent surgeries at the hospital push its staff to the limits. Determined to ease the pressure, Nic requests Jude for one of the operations, making Conrad jealous.
