Celebrating Juneteenth With Maya Cade
“When I think of Juneteenth, I think of the promise of tomorrow. The ability for Black people to equally imagine and construct a world of our design,” shares Maya—the writer and film programmer behind Black Film Archive who recently became a scholar-in-residence at the Library of Congress. We’ve invited her to establish a theme for this year’s jubilee, which she’s bringing to life in three expertly curated collections: Visions, Community, and Joy. “This Juneteenth marks two years since the George Floyd protests of June 2020, and I believe these three thematic pillars add cinematic language to the path forward.”
