Nikolay Cherkasov

Forceful star of the Soviet stage and screen, best known in the west for his subdued yet flamboyant and powerful performances in the title roles of three Eisenstein films: "Alexander Nevsky" (1938), "Ivan the Terrible Part I" (1944) and "Ivan the Terrible Part II (1946). Cherkasov's autobiography, "Notes of a Soviet Film Actor," was published in 1953.
