The owner of a pet shop gives a little dog away to a family. When the family go for a picnic, the puppy get lost in the dangerous forest and his life is at risk - until he meets his new owner.

Scruff meets Peter, a young country worker who adopts him and takes him home to his uncle and aunt's farmhouse. But things aren't as easy as they seem with so many new animals about.

Auntie Lil begins to accept Scruff, but Haunty the Hound isn't convinced - he knows about a legend that curses three dogs living together in a farmhouse.

White Socks the fox gets Scruff into trouble when he tempts him into eating eggs. Eggs are human food and not meant for animals! What will Scruff do?
