The Torch

The marriage of Maria Dolores (Paulette Goddard) to American doctor Robert Stanley (Walter Reed) is threatened when the revolutionary army of Gen. José Juan Reyes (Pedro Armendáriz) arrives in Cholula. Despite the presence of Father Sierra (Gilbert Roland), Reyes' childhood friend, the general establishes his hold over the town with executions and threats. When an influenza epidemic strikes, the army prepares to depart, and Maria is forced to decide whether to flee.
