Running Wild With Bear Grylls: The Challenge

Bear takes Oscar winner Natalie Portman into the slot canyons of the Escalante Desert. Along the way he teaches her technical mountaineering skills such as how to place pitons when rope climbing, how to transfer rope systems, and how to make and light a signal fire. On day 2 Natalie takes these skills that Bear has taught her and needs to execute them in order for both of them to get extracted.

Bear takes Marvel superhero Simu Liu into the mountains of the Canadian Rockies in the dead of winter. They are dropped on a mountain top where Bear teaches Simu how to safely descend the mountain and how to prioritize survival needs. On Day 2 Bear sets up the ultimate arctic weather challenge, testing Simu and ending in the duo stripping down and taking a plunge into a frozen lake.

Ashton Kutcher joins Bear in the jungles of Costa Rica. As they traverse through rivers, swamps and jungles, Bear teaches Ashton essential survival skills including how to travel with fire, traverse a mangrove forest, and do a commando crawl. On Day 2 Bear sets up a rope challenge and Ashton must muse the commando crawl skill to cross over a 300-foot-high gorge.

Bear takes actress Florence Pugh on an adventure into the volcanic rainforests of Costa Rica. They abseil out of a helicopter, traverse river rapids, and depth sound to determine whether it’s safe to dive from a towering cliff. On Day 2 Florence is faced with a massive cliff rappel where she needs to tie the knot that will hold them. And before the journey is over Bear has one final epic surprise.

Anthony Anderson joins Bear on an adventure through the alpine lakes of the Sierra Nevadas. Bear tosses their backpacks out of the helicopter and they skydive into their adventure. Once landed they search for their backpacks and Bear teaches Anthony navigation and knot tying skills as they trek. On day 2 Anthony wakes up alone and needs to execute the skills he was taught to get extracted.

Bear puts Rob Riggle through a series of mountain man survival tests in the Great Basin to prepare him for an upcoming movie role. The duo start by rappelling out of a helicopter. Then Bear makes Rob anchor their massive rappel, cross a raging river, forage for food, and build a shelter. On Day 2 Bear challenges Riggle to camouflage himself and move through the terrain without being spotted.
