Alfonso Freeman

American actor Alfonso Freeman is perhaps best known for his roles in films starring his father, Academy Award-winning actor Morgan Freeman. The Compton native studied as an art major at California State University, Long Beach, but later decided to pursue a career in acting. He did not meet his father in person until the mid-1980s, when the elder Freeman was filming the television mini-series "The Atlanta Child Murders," but he later joined the cast of many of his father's films. In 1994, he had a minor role in the Academy Award-winning prison drama "The Shawshank Redemption" as a convict. He also made appearances in the 1995 thriller "Seven," the 2000 comedy "Nurse Betty" and the 2007 drama "The Bucket List," all of which starred Morgan Freeman. The actor poked fun at his Hollywood family connection by appearing in the 2000 parody short film " The SharkTank Redemption." In addition to his film work, Freeman has taken guest roles in numerous television series, including the political drama "The West Wing" in 2000, the medical drama "ER" in 2001 and the legal serial "The Practice" in 2002. Aside from his work in film and television, Freeman acts in various theater productions and is a gospel singer.
