Maree Cheatham

Maree Cheatham is best known for her performances on three of daytime television's most popular soap operas: "Days of Our Lives," "General Hospital," and "Search for Tomorrow." On "Days of Our Lives," she was the first actress to play the character of Marie Horton, from the show's beginning in 1965 to 1968. The part is her most well-known character, and she returned often to reinvigorate the role when not acting on rival soap operas. She also starred for 10 years as Stephanie Wilkins, "the woman you love to hate," on "Search for Tomorrow," as well as shady Charlene Simpson, aunt of long-time character Lucy Coe, on "General Hospital" and its spinoff "Port Charles." Although acting on daytime television is where her claim to fame was established, Cheatham has brought her talents to several primetime shows, including "Knots Landing," "Scrubs," "Dharma and Greg," and "The West Wing." While she's more likely to be found on television, she has cropped up in feature films now and then, most memorably in Tim Burton's eccentric dark comedy "Beetlejuice," playing Robert Goulet's wife, and in the 1998 Adam Sandler comedy "The Wedding Singer," where she naively asks a plane full of passengers, "What's the Mile High Club?"--much to the leering amusement of rocker Billy Idol.
