Peter Donat

Canadian-born actor Peter Donat began his career with a gallant performance as the title character in a production of "Cyrano de Bergerac." While his nearly five-decade run in Hollywood as a minor character player has seldom matched such grandiose beginnings, Donat has made consistent, quality contributions to such major films as "The Godfather Part II" (1974), "The China Syndrome" (1979), and "The Babe" (1992), among a slew of others. Beginning in the 1970s, Dobson landed regular appearances on American television, including the Emmy-nominated drama "Rich Man, Poor Man: Book II" and the prime-time soap "Flamingo Road," where he played the editor of a small town newspaper. But Donat's most notable TV appearances would come in the 1990s: as the time-traveling villain Dr. Mordecai Sahmbi on the short-lived show "Time Trax" and as agent Fox Mulder's (David Duchovny) father, William Mulder, on the hit conspiracy series "The X-Files." Peter Donat died on September 10, 2018 at the age of 90.
