After discovering she is pregnant, Kitty Moran and her husband, Jack, are hurt in a car crash. Kitty loses the baby and is told the injuries from the accident may prevent her from conceiving again. On the advice of friends Walter and Janet Pringle, the couple decides to adopt, but their show business background makes orphanage director Mrs Johnston wary. Desperate, Kitty and Jack turn to the black market for a baby.
