Tig Notaro

Tig Notaro

Born in Mississippi and raised in Texas, Tig Notaro didn't begin stand-up comedy until her late 20s. Her forthright style was popular and Notaro made her first onscreen appearance in 2001 on "Premium Blend" (Comedy Central, 1997-2005), which showcased up and coming stand up talent. Her late night debut came in 2006, when she was on an episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" (ABC, 2003-). In 2007, Notaro appeared in her first recurring role on "The Sarah Silverman Program" (Comedy Central, 2007-2010), and in 2011 released her first comedy album Good One. She performed a famous live set in 2012, just days after being diagnosed with cancer in both breasts. That set was recorded and released the same year as the album Live, which earned an Emmy nomination for Best Comedy Album. Instead of retreating, Notaro continued to incorporate her struggle into her material and created a very personal bond with her growing audience. She appeared on episodes of "Inside Amy Schumer" (Comedy Central, 2013-16), "Maron" (IFC, 2013-16) and "Transparent" (Amazon, 2014-) among others. The film "Tig" (Netflix, 2015) was a documentary about Notaro's attempts to conceive with her partner. The same year a documentary called "Knock Knock, It's Tig Notaro" (Showtime, 2015) was released, chronicling her stand up tour following the surgery. Her memoir I'm Just a Person was published in 2016, and her series "One Mississippi" (Amazon, 2016-2017) premiered. The show followed a fictionalized version of Notaro's journey as she returned to Mississippi after her mother's death.
