Eric Bress

Eric Bress is an American screenwriter best known to genre fans as the co-writer of the gimmicky teen-oriented horror thrillers "Final Destination 2," its sequel "The Final Destination," as well as the co-writer and co-director of the dark science fiction/thriller "The Butterfly Effect." Bress, who frequently works with his long-time creative partner J. Mackye Gruber, made his leap to feature films in the late 1990s with the independently produced film "Blunt," a black comedy about a desperate failed actor pushed to his limits. The film was well-received and went on to win an award at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival, but it failed to make an impact beyond the film festival circuit. Bress and Gruber, who shared a love of dark humor and genre elements, won to write " Final Destination 2," the second in a a series most notable for how its characters perish in various bizarre, ingenious ways; They directed and wrote "The Butterfly Effect" (winner of the Pegasus Audience Award at the Brussels International Festival of Fantasy Film), the duo's pet project, starring Ashton Kutcher as a time-traveller who discovers that even slighty revising the past can have drastic, horrifying consequences. The duo also created the science fiction teen-oriented television show "Kyle XY." On his own, Bress wrote the screenplay for "The Final Destination," the final movie in the series. The duo reunited in 2010, in order to co-write the thriller "Blindsighted," which Gruber directed.
