Hakushu Kitahara is a genius poet and lives his life with reckless abandon. He often drinks excessively and has affairs with married women. Meanwhile, Kosaku Yamada is a hard working musician. Miekichi Suzuki, who runs a magazine on children literature, asks them to write children’s songs together. Even though these two men have totally different personalities and argue frequently, they are able to make lots of songs to cheer up the children. They are then ordered to write a war song to send children into the battlefield.
