Rob Benedict grew up around acting and the arts, what with his parents being leaders in their local community theater. He eventually pursued a fine arts education at Northwestern University, which led to guest-starring roles in various television series, and by the late 1990s, Benedict had landed a recurring part in the drama "Felicity." His character, the unlikeable neighbor Richard Coad, eventually graduated to regular cast member. During the 2000s, Benedict alternated between short films, television appearances, and features, which provided him plenty of opportunities to continue expanding his range. His most notable work during this period (besides "Felicity") included the indie comedy "Waiting. ." and the science-fiction show "Threshold." In the former, he played a waiter and hopeless romantic named Calvin, while in the latter he was Lucas Pegg, an insecure engineer. While "Threshold" failed to find an audience, Benedict soon landed another regular role on "Head Case," a comedy about a Hollywood therapist that aired between 2007 and 2009. Along with acting, he earned his first writing credits on several episodes of the show. By the end of the 2000s, Benedict had logged guest-starring and recurring roles on a large quantity of series, including the action-packed "Birds of Prey," in which he played the especially-perceptive barkeep Gibson Kafka. He continued to be a familiar face in movies and television shows during the early 2010s.
