America Olivo

America Olivo is a singer and actress best known for appearing regularly on "Chicago PD" (NBC, 2014-) and "Degrassi: The Next Generation" (TeenNick, 2001-2015). Olivo was born to Nello Olivo and Danica D'Hondt, an actress who was once crowned Miss Canada. Olivo grew up in Los Angeles, and went on to study opera at Juilliard after high school. In 1998, Olivo and three other women of Hispanic descent formed the band Soluna. Their Latin pop/rock sound met with minor success, and their song "For All Time" hit the Billboard Top 40. Soluna disbanded in 2004, and Olivo began pursuing an acting and modeling career. She began to take on theatrical roles, most notably as the understudy for the female lead in the Broadway musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" (2010-2014). She has appeared in numerous guest star and recurring roles in series such as "How I Met Your Mother" (CBS, 2005-2014), "House" (Fox, 2004-2012), "The Strain" (FX, 2014-2017) and "General Hospital" (ABC, 1963-) and made appearances in the films "Iron Man " (2008) and "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" (2009) and "Mission: Impossible-Rogue Nation" (2015). Her most notable roles are as Amanda in "Friday The 13th" (2009) and as Camero in "Bitch Slap" (2009). In July of 2009, Olivo married actor Christian Campbell, whom she had co-starred with in the small horror flick "Neighbor" (2009). The couple gave birth to a daughter, Indira Rose Campbell, in 2012, but the baby tragically died three days later of Edwards syndrome. Olivo has since become the spokesperson for Baby Quest, a foundation that raises money for those who cannot afford infertility treatments. In 2013, Olivo landed the recurring role of former model and strict mother Mrs. Rivas on "Degrassi: The Next Generation." She also appeared in the "Chicago Fire" (NBC 2012-) spinoff "Chicago PD" in the recurring role of Laura Dawson, wife of Detective Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda). In recent years, Olivo moved into producing and writing and was the senior writer on the Netflix series Northern Rescue (2019). One of Olivo's recent projects includes "The Last Thing He Told Me" (Apple TV, 2023-).
