I Will Repay

S1, E9: In exchange for testifying against mobster Saul Craven, Vanessa Delgardo is offered immunity by Natalie's younger brother, prosecutor Richard Lambert. However, upon arriving at the police station to take her statement, Richard is critically wounded as he tries to prevent a hostage taking. As the young lawyer tenuously clings to life, the police learn that Vanessa has reneged on her deal to testify, fearing she cannot be adequately protected. To save her brother's life, Natalie asks Nick to make Richard a vampire, insisting on the favor for all she has done to help him become human again. But, recalling a failed effort he made long ago to save the life of Elizabeth, a leper who was fatally attacked, Nick doubts his ability to bring someone over to the dark side. However, with Richard ever closer to death, Nick finally agrees and, burying the body of a homeless man in his place, joins Natalie to break the news of Umbert's new immortality to his wife, Sarah. Despite warnings about the dangers of his new life, Richard decides to go after Craven, prompting Janette to criticize Nick's irresponsibility. Then, after finding Craven, his associates and Vanessa all dead from vampire bites, Nick returns to confront Richard. Though Natalie's brother claims he is simply ridding the city of crime while fulfilling his own hunger for blood, Nick remembers being forced to deal with Elizabeth's vengeful behavior and attacks Richard with a wooden stake, ending his short life as a vampire.
