S1, E4: Initially rebuffing Akari’s invitation to the Haze Junior High festival, Hikaru decides to attend only to be stood up. As he walks through the festival grounds, he spots a Go demonstration, much to the delight of Sai. With Sai’s help, he wins a couple prizes, but when talk turns to Akira Toya, an brash upstart from the Shogi club shows up and spews his contempt for Akira Toya and all things related to Go. Angered by his tactless attitude, Kaga challenges him to a game of Go with serious consequences.
