T1, E2: Sakari Oramo ignites this Proms finale, leading soprano Angel Blue, pianist Sir Stephen Hough, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in a rousing celebration at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Hosted by Strictly Come Dancing's Katie Derham, who is joined by British Tenor Nicky Spence and comedian Chris Addison, this is a brilliant finale to the 2024 Proms season. Iain Farrington’s "Extra Time" kicks off the second half with a riotous mash-up of British sports anthems. Blue dazzles in Chapí’s fiery zarzuela, tossing roses into a jubilant crowd, while Hough lends soulful gravitas to two spirituals. Mancini’s "The Pink Panther" slinks in with jazzy flair. Then tradition takes over. "Rule, Britannia!" shakes the rafters as Prommers sing with full-throated joy. "Jerusalem" swells with patriotic intensity, Britten’s "National Anthem" glows with quiet majesty, and "Auld Lang Syne" unites thousands in one final, thunderous chorus. More than a concert, this is London’s musical ritual, where revelry and reverence rise together beneath a sea of waving flags.
