S9, E17: While on an undercover stakeout, an officer returns to his car and finds his partner shot dead and lying on the sidewalk near the front of their vehicle. Detectives Briscoe (Jerry Orbach) and Curtis (Benjamin Bratt) investigate the stakeout suspect and quickly realize they are on the wrong path. Their pursuit for clues leads them to suspect one of their own. Assistant District Attorneys McCoy (Sam Waterston) and Carmichael (Angie Harmon) begin to piece together their case, tying the suspect to the murder, when police psychiatrist Emil Skoda (guest star J.K. Simmons) indicates that this case has more to it than meets the eye. S. Epatha Merkerson and Steven Hill also star.
