S1, E2: ‘… I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth.’ With these words, delivered in a speech at Rice University on 12th September 1962, President John F. Kennedy signaled the start of a space race that was to end with Neil Armstrong stepping on to the surface of the Moon.
