Now You See Love, Now You Don't
Ng Shan-Shui (Chow Yun-fat, City On Fire, A Better Tomorrow II) is the head of a rural New Territories village. Stubborn, charming, and thoroughly unprepared for what happens when his girlfriend Firefly (Carol Cheng, Eighth Happiness, Armour of God 2: Operation Condor) returns from downtown Hong Kong newly educated, independent, and unimpressed. A sharp culture-clash screwball comedy directed by Mabel Cheung, the film draws on Chow's own rural Lamma Island upbringing, and his deadpan comic timing against Cheng's fizzing energy produces precisely the kind of electricity that only the best screen pairs can create.
