Don Bluth: Somewhere Out There

Before he defined childhood for a generation with An American Tail, The Land Before Time, and Anastasia, Don Bluth led a high-stakes revolt against the studio that raised him. Frustrated by corporate cost cutting, Bluth walked out of Walt Disney Productions in 1979 taking a squad of star animators with him to wage an independent war for the soul of traditional 2D animation. Don Bluth: Somewhere Out There combines intimate new interviews with hundreds of hours of never-before-seen personal archives to tell the definitive story of an animation disruptor. Featuring an original score by Fergal Lawler (The Cranberries), the documentary exposes the raw cost of taking on Hollywood’s ultimate power and reveals the unvarnished story of a master craftsman caught between art and commerce, ego and faith, and the cost of building an empire on his own terms.
