Set in the 18th century, the story follows the relationship between two adolescent royals, King Ferdinand of Spain (Sergio Assisi) and Princess Mary-Carolina of Austria (Gabriella Pession) who are forced into wedlock for national interests. Ferdinand has already lost two wives, and is having a happy affair with the Princess of Medina (Nicole Grimaudo). Nonetheless, he is married to Carolina and the two find they share a similar passion for life.
