Lord Jeff

A lord of lies, Geoffrey Braemer (Freddie Bartholomew) is an orphan living with con artists Jim Hampstead (George Zucco) and Doris Clandon (Gale Sondergaard), that is until he is arrested as an accomplice in a robbery. Once posing as an English aristocrat, Geoffrey must give up his deceptive deeds as he is shipped off to Russell-Cotes, a school for boys where they are trained to be sailors. Under the command of Captain Briggs (Charles Coburn), Geoffrey is partnered with the dutiful Terry O'Mulvaney (Mickey Rooney). Ever defiant, Geoffrey fails to fall in line and when he attempts to run away, Terry retrieves the AWOL adolescent but gets in trouble as a result of being out after hours. Taking the blame, Terry never names Geoffrey as the root cause, but knowing his involvement the other sailors shun him. Pressured by his peers, Geoffrey needs to get himself in ship shape if he wants to earn their respect back and return Terry to his rightful rank in the class.
