Me Three
Jeannie Steffi is a dark, humorously self-destructive 17 year-old girl who’s a child of bickering divorced parents. She’s a scholarship student at an exclusive westside private school and falls for Maya, the daughter of the wealthiest family at the school (a family whom her parents hate). She buys a Native American pendant from intense indigenous activist Sylvia to give her confidence. However, when Maya breaks up with her because of Jeannie’s parents’ actions against her parents, Jeannie has a meltdown. While her parents try to soothe her, they’re attacked by an intruder and killed in her presence. Jeannie has been rubbing and saying the prayer of the pendant the entire time. As a result, their spirits end up inside her body. Her dad controls her left side and her mom controls her right. Jeannie and Sylvia meet with a local Native American, the source of the pendant, and learn she has 7 days to get the pendant back (from Maya’s mom) so she can reverse the curse, get her life back and release her parents’ spirits into the universe. If she doesn’t, their spirits will take over and hers will disappear. Sylvia, the indigenous activist who sold her the pendant, agrees to help her. Jeannie also learns (although she’s skeptical about it) this would only happen to someone with special gifts. Jeannie thus has to confront the police (who are ever more increasingly suspicious of her), partner with Sylvia and maintain appearances with Maya (with whom she’s preparing a dance performance) to get the pendant from Maya’s mom and fight off the guy who murdered her parents, which she learns was a result of a conspiracy. During this time, she and her parents come to a new understanding of one another. Jeannie also forges deep relationships with Sylvia and Maya and realizes her gifts and purpose in life. As a result, she goes from being dark and self-destructive to a strong, confident young woman who can finally let her parents go.
