Winner of the Variety Piazza Grande Award at the Locarno International Film Festival, Rose is a poetic manifesto for living life to the fullest.Starring French film icon Françoise Fabian, whose presence in such films as Eric Rohmer’s My Night at Maud’s and Claude Lelouch’s The Good Year defined French cinema for audiences worldwide in the 1960s and 1970s, the film centers on the titular Rose, a 78-year-old woman who has just lost her adored husband of more than 50 years. When her grief gives way to a powerful impulse to live, Rose discovers herself. Having been defined by her decades-long marriage, her role as a mother and her adherence to Jewish tradition, she finds herself faced with options and challenges that would never have occurred to her earlier in life. Realizing that she can still redefine her life even while approaching 80, Rose recognizes that she is not just a mother, a grandmother, and a widow, but also a woman. She decides that she has the right to enjoy the rest of her life and finds the courage to take her desires to the limit. Though the whole balance of her family is upset, Rose knows that her resurrection will only last for a short while, and she decides to take advantage of her new life, and to escape from her grief and problems while she still has the chance.
