The Heavy: Live At 92Y

For most New Yorkers, MLK weekend means an extra day in which to play, while still paying tribute to the great Dr., of course. When The Heavy rolled through town during the winter of 2010, it meant an opportunity for a few hundred concert goers to have the dirtiest of weekends...though, it's probably not what you think. Sad to say, no one slogged off into the country with a significant (or not so significant, as I believe the term generally applies...) others. Instead, they gathered at the 92Y Tribeca to see one of the filthiest bands going these days. Oh my, was it a time...To say that The Heavy specialize in producing ginormous sounds is a bit of an understatement. Unfortunately, that also makes the immensity of their sound almost impossible to describe. Just know it's big. But theirs' is also a well-oiled practice in musical schizophrenia. R&B, Soul, Funk, Punk, Rock...it's all in there, coming together in the kind of rich, robust, and outlandishly cool musical flavor that's built for the dance floor. All apologies if the cameras start to shake a little over the course of this performance. It's impossible to resist.
