The Nun

The commandments of Christianity fall by the wayside in this gut wrenching film by director Jacques Rivette. Ostracized by her mother, Suzanne Simonin (Anna Karina) is pressured into joining a convent based on her mother's sinful ways. With serious reservations Suzanne becomes a nun, but immediately regrets her decision and seeks a way out. Her journey proves physically and emotionally draining as leadership within the convent responds to her wish to leave with a varying degree of resistance. Nurtured by some and abused by others, Sister Suzanne endures tortuous treatment until she realizes there is only one way out.
