Kenneth Branagh plays Richard, an eccentric and frustrated artist who dreams of human flight. After a glider stunt off a building lands him in court, Richard is forced into community service. There he meets Jane (Helena Bonham Carter), a bright woman who is in the final stages of a terminal illness. Jane's dying wish is to finally lose her virginity and she asks Richard to help, leaving him torn between romance and friendship.
