This Man's Navy
World War II airship pilot Ned Trumpet (Wallace Beery) has a bad habit of lying to his friends. One of his biggest yarns involves a son he doesn’t have but will one day need to introduce to his friends in order to save face. After parachuting onto the farm of widow Maude Weaver (Selena Royle), Ned meets her son Jess (Tom Drake) and forms an immediate bond with the young man who dreams of being a pilot, but suffers from a disqualifying disability. After Ned pays for the corrective surgery, Jess meets Ned’s friends and doesn’t balk when he introduces him as his son. Jess eventually becomes a pilot and joins Ned in the airship service. After a falling out they go their separate ways only to reunite while on dangerous duty in Burma.
