Sir James Damery asks Holmes for help in persuading Violet Merville to end her association with Baron Gruner, a villain who murdered his last wife abroad. After discovering that Gruner is obsessed with the women he has had relationships with, Holmes passes on vital information in the case against the evil man. Intrigue and deception are the order of the day - but is it all too much for the great detective?
