In the series premiere, John Cooper (series star MICHAEL CUDLITZ), a seasoned Los Angeles police officer and his rookie trainee, Ben Sherman (series star BEN McKENZIE), respond to a call that ends in a deadly shoot-out – and Ben is left questioning whether or not he has what it takes to become a police officer. Even though John is cool to the new recruit and his straitlaced "Beverly Hills" past, his honed insight and honest, no-nonsense advice is invaluable to the young rookie: "Look sharp, act sharp, be sharp. You do what they teach you in the academy, you will die."

When a U.S. Marine is killed in Central Park during Fleet Week, a New York annual tradition showcasing military pride and achievement, Mac personally tracks down the killer and discovers he may be a civilian who isn't a fan of "the few and the proud." The recovery and identity of a body murdered and then burned beyond recognition in a car fire turns out to be a former CSI, Aiden. (TV-14)
