Tony Micelli, a retired baseball player, becomes the housekeeper of Angela Bower, an advertising executive in New York. Together they raise their kids, Samantha Micelli and Jonathon Bower, with help from Mona Robinson, Angela's man-crazy mother.

Tony travels to Italy to claim an inheritance from his late Uncle Aldo.

The team investigates a case involving a series of decapitations; Ray is distracted from the case by the arrest of his brother, Eddie, until it becomes clear that Eddie is connected to the headless-bodies, increasing the tension between Sam and Ray.
