Neither Inspector Teal nor the Saint are impressed by Peter Corrio, a smug private detective who boasts to them that his security system for the fabulous Oppenheim emerald is fool-proof. They are suspicious that he has managed to solve so many jewel thefts that have evaded the police.

In South America the Saint meets two swindlers, Alice Nestor and her father. They show him a golden statue of a frog, claiming it is one of many such icons of the sacred frogs of the Incas and request that the Saint backs their expedition to find others. The Saint pretends to co-operate but plants some fake gold of his own to turn the tables on the swindlers.

Seeking the only man (Maurice Evans) who can lead a Moroccan revolt, the partners are captured by a political leader.

An American woman in London seeks Peter's help in rescuing her twin sister, who was kidnapped from her hotel after witnessing a murder.
