Brodie Smith

Brodie Smith was an American Ultimate Frisbee champion and YouTube star who was known for bringing worldwide awareness to the fledgling sport. Born in Fairview, Texas and raised in Florida, Smith grew up loving sports. He played all types of sports as a young boy, but by the time high school rolled around, he decided to focus on cross country. A gifted athlete, Smith excelled in the physically-demanding sport of cross country, and envisioned playing the sport well into college. But as luck would have it, one day after cross country practice he was introduced to a new game called ultimate Frisbee. They asked Smith to try out the game. He did and immediately fell in love. Before long Brodie Smith became obsessed with ultimate Frisbee, utilizing whatever free time he had to hone his skill for the sport. Smith may have just pursued the sport on his own time as a hobby, but upon entering the University of Florida, he was flabbergasted to learn that the school had an ultimate Frisbee team. Smith wasted no time in signing up, and during his four years at the school, lead the team to two USA Ultimate College Championships - the highest collegiate level honor for the sport of ultimate Frisbee. By 2011 Smith had become such an expert at ultimate Frisbee that he was able to do a number of visually appealing tricks, like throw a Frisbee into a target several meters away. He started posting videos of himself performing these tricks on YouTube, and quickly earned a devoted following. Within a few months his videos were being watched by millions of people, making Smith a bonafide YouTube star. He continued posting videos over the course of the next few years and by early 2017 had accumulated over 1.5 million subscribers, while his Frisbee trick shot videos had been watched over 230 million times. In addition to posting trick shot videos to his YouTube channel, Smith also plays ultimate Frisbee professionally for the Dallas Roughnecks, while spending the remainder of his free time traveling the world to promote the sport.
