When Melanie learns that Derwin is still upset about the bad publicity caused by her continuing friendship with an old football rival, she tries to find various ways to make it up to him. However, when Derwin refuses to acknowledge that there is a problem, Melanie calls her mother and starts packing.

Rush and Valens reopen the 1985 murder case of Charles Danville, a wealthy stockbroker killed during a possible botched carjacking. As they investigate Danville's life, the detectives learn the married man was using his money and power to coax sex from young male brokers desperate to succeed.

The squad must sift through a dead social worker's depressing caseload to find a suspect in her death. Andy tries to fulfill a late cop's final wish amid accusations that he and John ratted out fellow officers to internal affairs.

The Sliders arrive at Oakwood Institute, which appears to be a sort of mental hospital. The patients are roaming the grounds without supervision, and one of them, a man who plays a violin without strings (Paul Sand), says they're having a riot. Maggie (Kari Wuhrer) and Rembrandt (Cleavant Derricks) decide to look around. Suddenly police cars pull up and helmeted officers order the patients to return to their rooms. Everyone begins running toward the building. Diana (Tembi Locke) and Mallory (Robert Floyd), unsure of what to do, follow along. Rembrandt and Maggie see a sign on the front gate identifying the place as a neural remapping institute. Not sure what it means, but certain it can't be good, they slip through the gate as it begins to close.

The team members search for a pregnant, HIV-positive woman, Megan, who vanished moments after she and her husband saw the ultrasound of their healthy late-term fetus. They remain wary of Megan's husband, Brian, who allegedly left for a business trip after the ultrasound. Their suspicions are heightened when they learn that he had a brief affair last year after Megan was diagnosed with HIV, which she contracted during a previous relationship. But the investigators also find out that a blood technician had chastised Megan for putting her child at risk by becoming pregnant. They also probe whether or not Megan's disappearance is connected to an attempted infant abduction at the same hospital three weeks prior, and they look into the relevance of her last incoming cell phone call from a detention center.
