Emily Seebohm
One of the most successful Australian swimmers of the 21st Century, backstroke specialist Emily Seebohm won gold medals at the Olympics, World Aquatics Championships, Commonwealth Games and Pan Pacific Swimming Championships. Born in Adelaide to an Aussie Rules footballer father and swimming coach mother, Seebohm first came to attention as a 14-year-old when she won the 100m backstroke at the 2007 Australian Championships. After picking up a 4x100m medley relay gold at the World Championships in Melbourne later that same year, Seebohm competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, finishing ninth in her specialist event and first as part of the 4x100 medley relay team. In 2009, Seebohm picked up a relay silver and a bronze in the 100m backstroke at the WACs, and broke the world record in the 100m individual medley at the Australian Short Course Championships. Seebohm's winning streak continued in 2010 with four silvers - including one for her first international attempt at the 200m IM - and two golds at the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, and a highly impressive eight medals at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. At London 2012, Seebohm set a new Olympic record in the 100m backstroke and went onto win a silver in the final, later blaming her love of social media for distracting her from the main prize. Seebohm returned to the top of the podium at the 2013 Australian Championships in both the 50m and 100m backstroke, and later added a silver to her medal haul with the 4x100m freestyle relay team at the WACs. After picking up further medals at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh and Pan Pacific Championships, Seebohm then went one better at the 2015 WACs when she retained her two titles and won gold in the 4x100 medley relay.
