Bat Masterson is on the scene when horse-thieves Cat and Jesse Crail try to trigger a war between two Indian tribes. Purpose of the Crail maneuver: They plan to steal the Indians' horses while the braves are at each others throats. Bat and the Army initiate a plan to end hostilities.

In order to carry on as a gold miner, Bat Masterson becomes party to a timber war. Reason: A competing prospector, in order to prevent Bat from bracing the tunnels in his mine, makes a grab for all available timber.

A small town sheriff captures racketeer Jack Avery. When the sheriff summons the Highway Patrol, Avery gets in touch with one of his henchmen, Rick Herron. Executing a daring scheme to free Avery, Herron kidnaps the sheriff's wife and demands an exchange of prisoners Chief Mathews brings a Highway Patrol helicopter into action to locate the kidnapper and prevent a murder.
