Glen Winter

In TV, as on the big screen, cinematographers are often able to transition from the role of director of photography to, eventually, director. In the case of Glen Winter, it took about four years after he joined the WB Superman-themed series "Smallville" in 2002 to finally get his shot at directing an episode. Since that opportunity in '06, he has amassed a dozen directing credits on the show while continuing to work on it as the principal cinematographer. He is one of those fortunate Hollywood crew members who has attached himself to a show that has managed to enjoy a long, healthy run. On hiatus from "Smallville," Winter has generally taken a break rather than tried to cram in other projects, as actors on TV shows often do. One exception to this rule was the '08 drama "Stone of Destiny." Directed by former actor Charles Martin Smith, it tells the tale of Ian Hamilton (Charlie Cox), a Scottish nationalist who stole a famous crown jewel of his country back from England in the '50s.
