The murder of a teenage girl – who is the daughter of a powerful federal judge – leads The Lightman Group to a highly competitive college-prep school where getting to the head of the class means everything. The team also investigates a NASA test pilot accused of intentionally crashing a $250 million aircraft.

The Jeffersonian team investigates the murder of Sean Nolan, a failed model whose body is found intertwined in a beaver dam. The team soon discovers that Nolan’s fruitless modeling career left his sperm donations as his only source of income. However, when the team learns that he falsified records, they start to suspect anyone who was jilted by his donations. Meanwhile, Brennan struggles with social niceties and tact when she is drawn into a feud with author Tess Brown and Hodgins gets in touch with his motherly instincts when he plays host to a fly larva.

As Halloween approaches, Sue holds a séance during a sleepover with her fellow Wrestlerettes and swears that she's seen the ghost of Christopher Columbus and one of his ships; Axl finds himself being hazed by the football team and not allowed to enter his own Halloween party that's being thrown in his dorm room; and the family tries in vain to give Brick advice on how to ask out a girl he likes to go with him to a Halloween dance.

Brick takes a job as a newspaper delivery boy from the town's veteran newsman (guest star EDWARD ASNER) in order to buy himself night vision goggles, and Axl tries to convince Sue that a long distance relationship will not work between her and boyfriend Matt when his family moves away from Orson. Meanwhile, Sue attempts to adjust to wearing a full-on headgear, and Frankie discovers that Mike has been secretly hoarding batteries for years.

Axl, Sue and Brick call a sit down meeting with a shocked Frankie and Mike, accusing mom of being a nag and dad of giving out crazy punishments without ever hearing their sides of the story. In return, all they ask for is a chance to do what they're supposed to do – on their own – without constantly being harassed by their parents. But the kids might want to be careful what they wish for when Frankie and Mike agree to their terms and find themselves taking a relaxing break from parental responsibility.
