Gwilym Lee

A phenom in the world of Shakespearean acting, Gwilym Lee landed his first major theater role in a Royal Shakespeare Company production of "Richard III" when he was just 15. Born in Bristol, England, Lee always loved acting in school plays, even playing Alfie Doolittle in a primary school production of "My Fair Lady," but it was not until he saw a particularly moving production of "Not About Nightingales" at the National Theatre during his teens that he knew he had to become a professional actor. After playing the Prince of Wales in that prestigious RSC production, Lee was cast on the TV series "Animal Ark" (BBC, 1997-98), but when that series wrapped in 1998, the young actor took a break from professional acting to attend college. After graduating from Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2008, he returned to his Shakespearean roots, playing Laertes to Jude Law's Hamlet in a West End production of the play that would eventually move to Broadway. Lee would go on to star in a number of plays at the Donmar Warehouse including "The Promise" and "King Lear," but he would continue to act on screen as well, notably taking on the role of DS Charlie Nelson on the popular series "Midsomer Murders" (ITV, 1997-). In 2018, Lee made a major leap to feature films, playing Queen guitarist Brian May in the musical biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody" (2018).
