HAIM
Born to musical parents in Southern California's San Fernando Valley, the sisters Haim came to musical success through hard work, L.A. connections, and luck. The sisters began playing together with their parents, with their father, Moti, on drums and their mother, Donna, on guitar. The band formed with Este on bass, Danielle and Alana on guitar, along with drummer Dash Hutton. The group began performing together in 2007, but didn't release any records until 2012. In the meantime, Danielle played with Jenny Lewis and Julian Casablancas' touring bands, Este got a degree in Ethnomusicology from UCLA, and Alana graduated from high school. When the band got back together in 2012, they toured in support of Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeroes and released the three song EP Forever . Their debut full-length album was Days Are Gone, released in September 2013 by Polydor Records. Featuring two songs from their initial EP, the full-length album was a critical and commercial success, making a number of Best of 2013 lists, including Rolling Stone and Pitchfork. Although the album did not reach the charts in the United States, the band had plenty of exposure, playing on "Saturday Night Live" (NBC, 1975-) and headlining a US tour in 2014. They were nominated for a Grammy as Best New Band of 2014. In 2015, they appeared on the song "Pray to God" for EDM star Calvin Harris, and were slated to release their own second full-length studio album.
